Top Five Sources of News and Information

Twitter

The only social media I use on a regular basis, Twitter is a massive and important source of news for me. I am able to get news fast and frequently, thanks to posts not taking as long to type as full articles. I am also able to easily follow many different independent journalists and news sources, allowing myself to diversify the news I see on a daily basis. One of the most useful things that twitter has introduced is the community notes. Community notes allow a verified user to fact check potentially false posts and let others know. Twitter is an important source of news that I will continue to use.

ESPN

With my major being Sports Media, I find it incredibly important to engage with the news that each sport will bring. The app allows me to fine tune the articles and scores I want to see, which helps me to see what I want to see. ESPN is also useful when it comes to information for fantasy leagues and sports betting, two fields that have really interested me recently. ESPN also allows me to watch any live game going on, giving me an easy distraction from my day to day life. The app is one of my mainstays, and allows me to keep track of every team that I love to watch.

WFMZ-TV

A local news station that serves my home area, WFMZ is a mainstay at my house and an always reliable source of background noise. While my family uses it mostly for the weather and traffic, I like to listen to the breaking news stories of the surrounding area. WFMZ also provides sports scores for every imaginable level, such as the ECHL, ACL and the MILB. WFMZ will continue to be a news source that I use for the time I am home.

FOX8 WGHP

FOX8 WGHP is another local news station, this time serving the Triad Area. I am a sophomore, but I am still very new to High Point and the surrounding cities. Following a station that keeps me up to date on the local areas has allowed me to become familiar with the local areas. The station was also helpful due to its frequent coverage of the two hurricanes that have affected the NC area, allowing me to see the damage caused and the best way to keep myself and my friends safe. WGHP is a station I will continue to follow as I go to school here.

CNN

The final news source, and the one I use the least out of everything on this list, is CNN. I have really only started to use it because of the election, but I do plan on checking it every once in a while. CNN is useful to me due to its worldwide coverage, allowing me to follow what's going on in other parts of the world. CNNs expert news reports also ensure that every story covered there is verifiably true, and easy to follow. CNN may be the app I use the least, but I will keep up with the news that it provides me.
